Simulates the thermal performance of a gradient heating furnace, a JEM shared experimental facility

The gradient heating furnace for compatibility testing simulates the thermal performance of the JEM shared experimental facility (also a gradient heating furnace), and is used to stipulate sample cartridge characteristics and experimental parameters. The furnace can provide various temperature profiles owing to three independently controllable heating rooms in the furnace. Samples can be melted or directionally solidified.
Note: Japanese Experiment Module or JEM is another moniker for Kibo, Japan’s manned space facility
