温室効果ガス観測技術衛星「いぶき」（GOSAT）は、JAXAと環境省、国立環境研究所が、共同プロジェクトで開発した人工衛星で、地球温暖化の原因と言われている二酸化炭素やメタンなどの温室効果ガスを宇宙から測定します。これにより、地球温暖化や気候変動の科学的な理解を深めて、温暖化対策に貢献することを目的にしています。
2009年1月23日に、H-IIAロケット15号機により打ち上げられた「いぶき」には、H-IIAロケットの公募小型衛星としては初めて、JAXAの「小型実証衛星1型「SDS-1」とあわせて計7基の小型衛星が地球周回軌道に打ち上げられました。
