Letara Ltd. is a startup from Hokkaido University. It was established in 2020 in Sapporo, Japan, with the aim of bringing to society the hybrid chemical propulsion technology that has been researched for over 25 years in a laboratory at Hokkaido University. We research, develop, and manufacture of propulsion engine for the spacecrafts. The hybrid chemical propulsion system that we are developing maintains the high thrust of existing propulsion engine while ensuring safety. We use HDPE plastics as fuel and N2O as the oxidizer. HDPE is a high-density plastic, commonly used in plastic bags, and nitrous oxide is a substance that is harmless to humans and is even used as an anesthetic. By reducing both safety management costs and transportation costs, we can offer this at a lower price than existing engines to the market. Our goal at Letara, is to get these safe, high powered, and affordable engines into the hands of every person and company that wants to build rockets, satellites, or do anything in space. We truly believe that with this technology, we can finally make space accessible and available to all.
Our propulsion engine is characterized by high thrust, low cost, and ease of control. The engine's size can also be customized based on the power required by the customer. Therefore, our target market is broad, and potential customers include companies manufacturing or outsourcing upper stage rocket engines for orbital insertion, satellites and other spacecrafts, orbital transfer vehicle. In addition to these, companies that have been using conventional chemical propulsion engines can also benefit from switching to our engines in terms of cost savings, making them another target customer group.
