Origami/ETS

Origami/ETS was the first company set up using the JAXA venture system. The purpose of the company is to spread and expand the usage of Origami/ETS, a large-scale deployable structural analysis program developed by JAXA for the design and development of a large-scale antenna that can be deployed in space. The company carries out the sublicensing of Origami/ETS and development of interface units for Origami/ETS and existing analysis software, and also provides services such as structural design and analysis using Origami/ETS and related consulting.

Summary of products and services

Origami/ETS is a nonlinear finite element analysis software that can handle geometric nonlinearity. The theory is based on the design and development of a large-scale deployable antenna for JAXA's engineering test satellite VIII "KIKU No. 8." A demonstration was carried out and the software has a proven track record for contributing to successful orbital deployment. It is possible to analyze large deformed structures that are difficult to analyze with ordinary structural analysis software. For instance, the software’s strength is in the analysis of structures that move substantially, and it can be used for the seismic analysis of skyscrapers and collapse analysis of wooden buildings In addition, the software’s strength is in the analysis of structures composed of cables, and it can be used in the design of playsets composed of ropes, including sail climbing.
